hi,

i have one question regarding spfile vs pfile while taking rman backup.

i read one document about rman in that, they mentioned that

"note: if you are not using spfile, then you can not backup your
database text based init.ora parameter file with rman"

if i started my database using pfile. what impact it does while taking backup.
what is the main difference between spfile and pfile in RMAN case.

is there any disadvantages by using pfile while RMAN enveronment.

Regards,

If you are using an spfile, RMAN can back it up, however it can not backup a pfile. There really isn't need to backup the pfile since it can be created from the spfile anyway.
