I'm a JR DBA that's looking to put a recovery catalog on a sun ultra 10 workstation. We're not sure we can get approval for a new server so looking at our alternatives. What are the minimum specs for a recovery catalog? I've looked through documentation and all I've found is hard disk space requirements and nothing else. I figure the load shouldn't be much but don't want to waste my time if an ultra 10 won't cut it. I would like to run Solaris 10. Any advice would be great or referrals to documentation showing hardware requirements. Thanks

Very minimal hardware requirements for a generic Oracle database.
Look for hardware requirements for Oracle database version you are about to install.
I run my catalog database on a sun blade and uptime is 269 days till now Smile
A separate recovery catalog is useful only if you intend to use the the nice options it has to offer or have multiple databases to be backed up or your audit conditions states so.

Mahesh,

Thanks for your reply. I will be loading 10g R1 for the recovery catalog. I will look into the minimum specs for 10g.

Oracle support recommended we set up a recovery catalog to solve the issues we've had with RMAN and Veritas Netbackup. We used to have a recovery catalog with 9i but it went away with 10g upgrade.
