Cloning a database from one m/c to another [message #280050]

Hi all ,

I am sobha, new to Oracle.

I need to clone a database from one machine to another.Oracle 10g is installed on both the machines(both are windows) and the database is already created on the target machine.

I have copied the DBF, CTL ,log files from source machine to target machine. Basically I have overwritten the earlier files on the target m/c.

If the DBF files path in both the machines is same, then I am able to access the m/c in target machine. But here the path is different in both machines, hence I couldnt access the database.

Pls advise.. It is very urgent for me.. I tried so many ways but none of them worked for me..

Which Oracle Edition do you have? Entreprise (EE), Express (XE)...?
Have a look at RMAN to duplicate your database.

So use RMAN.
It has a duplicate command and you can relocate your files.

instead of using RMAN, any other way is there by copying DBF files?

Yes...I have already copied DBF,CTL and log files..but I couldnt start the database after that...Anything else need to be done after copying them?

You have to startup, mount execute an "alter database" on each file to rename them to the new location and then open the database.
