What are the steps for setting up a standy database on the same box ?

1. Start Oracle Enterprise Manager using Managerment Server
2. start Data Guard Manager
3. use configuration wizard to create a configuration

a. choose primary database
b. give standby database directory for datafile and archive log file.

Click finish. data guard manager create standby database for you.
you must have sysdba privilege to do this.
