Hi,

Is there a way where if the primary db fails, the standby can take over automatically and all my application pointing to primary can automatically point to standby database.

What is the ideal bandwidth for implementing remote standby?

Thanks,
Yash

1)A functionality what You need is implemeted by RAC.
2)The size of bandwidth depends from the size of generating logs in your database.

o As per my knowldge, Switchover can not take automatically, though it is easy in 10g.

Applications which are using primary database cab be used
your standby database
[ which will act as primary after role swithover ]

You just need to put a single line in your tnsnames.ora
the whole address string for standby database
and [ failover on ] -- not exactly remember the syntax

Regards,
Js

I agree with Jagjeet, switchover can not happen automatically.
