I have solve this question.

you open the terminal command.
and type "sendmail start"

then you check the system time

mail -s title xuhai@tom.com < test.txt

then you will receive a letter

When i issued "sendmail start" in the terminal window of the root user , it was just hanging with

I did n't get anything in the terminal and i had to cancel the operation to come out.

start your sendmail process as follows if you are not depending on the rc scripts,

queue interval that i had mentioned is arbitrary modify to your needs,

/usr/sbin/sendmail -bd -q20m

then check the following after issuing the above command
1) whether sendmail is running
2) check in syslog for any error (mostly could be redirection errors)
3) run a test mail and verify

hope this helps

i believe sendmail start to be used

only when the rc scripts are configured
/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail
