Dear Oracle expert

I am an MSc student at Staffordshire University
investigating the subject of Oracle tuning. To this end,
I have created a web based questionnaire.
I would be most grateful if you could find 5 minutes to fill one in.
The questionnaire can be found at following website. http://www.abubaker.co.uk

Many thanks

hi...

Read it ( especially written in bold). It is useful .... survey question and my answer..which are as below
=================================================================================

Full Name:- Well i dont think this is important as per your survery but my First name is sunilkumar

My Job Title:- Cunsultant (oracle DBA)

Company:- Reputed Software MNC Which provides business solution and IT enable services to their client globally from offshore as well as sending there employee at client (i.e. onsite)... yea its office is in usa india africa australia etc..

1. How many years of experience do you possess in an Oracle environment?
Enough experience .. that usa can give me H1 visa ... Laughing ...
2. Do you posses Oracle database certification?
I am certified professional as well as with degree of master in computer.
3. What experience do you have resolving major database problems and performance issues?
Years

a. No experience
b. In Server & network problems
c. In Instance problems
d. In Object problems
e. In SQL problems

A per the above question i am experienced & good enough to get Rs 5-6 lac PA (note :- 1$=> 46-48 rs) and in india other than my company will going to give me more what i had mentioned above.. Smile

Performacne tunning :- It is the adjustment that DBA does to the database resources as per the database load so as to increase the performance... so SQL, Object and Instance is part of database.... server and network most of time handle by System administrator and network adminstrator .. the work of DBA is to co-ordinate with network and system adminstrator... but if DBA is good in Netwrok and system administration work than it is his plus point. (Note :- All good DBA can carry their work on given o/s (operating system) they just have to see few command database concepts are not changed) .. so as you had mention above in your questioner.... all DBA are not specialised in any single particular area they are good enough to work on all the things such as SQL, Instance , Object etc... It depends on the requirement.

Note:-[1] DBA work is to provide system support related to database which are running

[2] In software development (application development) DBA design the database.

[3] DBA also decide what type of hardware is required for oracle and how much data is going to store on it every thing is estimated before establishing any database for an oragnisation.

[4] DBA must be good enough to handle all situation in dimplomatic way related to his work as well as personal relation with there client, boss, team member and their junior... most of them not see this as important issue but in long run this pay more than any thing Laughing .... if term are good dba will get proper information to tune & to carry other database activity.

Now as per your question from 4 to 8 where we all have to give number or rate ourselves as per given below.... I want to say that... some time i m good and some time i can give guidance to other also .. u should know no one is perfect all are trying to be best ...

Note:- Some time good or excellent dba also need help... so what you say about this..? In jobs interview when some one asks me how much you rate yourslef in activity of oracle administration out of 10... i never give less than 8 to myself .. Laughing ... Guts is the most important thing to put hand on the Database....

for question 4-8
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
0 – No knowledge/ skills/ abilities
1 – Some knowledge, skill or ability (i.e. Would require some help in this area.)
2 – Satisfactory (i.e. Could perform activity or apply knowledge with guidance.)
3 – Very Good (i.e. Could perform the activity or apply knowledge independently.)
4 – Excellent (i.e. Could provide guidance to others under difficult conditions.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Knowledge in the Server & network tuning, Instance tuning, Object tuning and SQL tuning.
5. Knowledge of specific Oracle utilities and scripts (i.e. Explain, STATSPACK)
6. Ability to manage a database whose size is greater than 100G:
7. Knowledge, skill and ability to participate in major database tuning, SQL reviews and related issues to insure quality database.
8. Knowledge, skill and ability in the administration of Oracle databases performance tuning

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9. Does your installation of Oracle need to be tuned permanently?
10. How often does your installation of Oracle need to be tuned?
11. Do you seek outside specialists to assist with some or all of the tuning phases?
12. Do you use tools to assist in tuning your Oracle installation?

For above question 9-12 i had already replied ....
I said earlier => DBA also decide what type of hardware is required for oracle and how much data is going to store on it.. every thing is estimated before establishing any database for an oragnisation.

14. What do you personally consider to be the most challenging aspects of Oracle tuning?

Please rate (0 = not challenging, 1 = Challenging, 2 = Very challenging & 3 = Extremely challenging)
Server & network tuning 0 1 2 3
Instance tuning 0 1 2 3
Object tuning 0 1 2 3
SQL tuning 0 1 2 3

As per your question number 14 which is above .... The work of DBA is always challenging, Its adventure to work on 24X7 database.... where the life of DBA is on edge... when things go wrong he/she can be kicked by company... so every day on 24X7 database, DBA deals with the life of many people coz in todays world data are important ,,,, which are managed by database administrator (Note :-- collection of meaning full data form an inforamtion)

15. What issues concern you the most?

My answer to question 15 is .... firstly How much valuable data is? which i am handling b'coz that make me more alert ... other than this ...is my Database is properly configured ?... will i be able to recovery all the data after crash.... what will happen to my data in case of disaster...........but your question was in context with PT...

Now as per your question from 16 to 20 where we all have to rate from 0-4

0 – No complex
1 – Simple
2 – Average
3 – Complex
4 – Very complex

16. How would you rate the overall complexity of the database tuning?
17. How would you rate the overall complexity of Oracle tuning?
18. How would you rate the complexity of Server & network tuning?
19. How would you rate the complexity of Instance tuning?
20. How would you rate the complexity of SQL tuning?

For question 16-20 ==> If my employer will not going to give me more money/pay then i will say it is 4--complex .. ha ha ha .. but i want to tell one thing here if i m giving interview then i will say it depends on the issue ,,,, some time when u do trouble shooting things get solve very easily ,,,and some time it take lot of time to solve issue which are very simple..... so its person to person and their knowledge on database ,,,,

Conclusion of the above survey is to find ---> Oracle DBA for job... who had sound knowledge specially in field of Performance tuning of oracle database... well in my case if ... any consultant gives me 45-50$ on hourly basis in usa then i can think to work for them yea as per my experience and qualification they have to give me in between 45-50$... (If some DBA is planning to go usa on H1) consultant on whose behalf DBA is going must give 70% to dba and 30% he can keep ....this deal is not bad for 3-5 yr IT exp guy... other than this is exploitation of Highly skilled (labour) professional..i.e. DBA

Note:- I had reliable friend on orafaq.com who helps me to solve my issue when ever i am in deep trouble... so i can give myself more then 8 out of 10 in performing oracle database activity.. coz more than one brain is thinking on my issue Razz

Regard
Always Friend Sunilkumar ...Smile

Please stop this nonsensical survey before it becomes hogwash. Any topic that is not technical should get into 'market'.
There is thin border line between posting useful information and spamming.

It is unethical to post information like above (Comments on visa, 'deals & rates' etc) in public forum.

EDIT:
Update:
Moved to marketplace.

hi,

I m not doing anything unethical its your peception ,,, what ever i know i had mentioned here... and the survey was not posted by me ... yea i posted my reply .. coz that survey question was to find some Performance tunning expert for oracle that i believe may be other people will have there other views on it,,, as per the visa and money if some dba will ask me what to do... my reply will be the same ... there are lot of young s/w engineer in india who wants to work in usa ,,,, but i dont want exploitation of my DBA friend so i had written about deals ok....

Before i reply on this survey question Its moderators duty to find were such question is posted in forum and take proper action ...... earlier this question was in performance tunning section then in system administration and then in backup recovery section..... and frankly speaking i m not the moderator....

Regards
Always friend Sunilkumar

hi...

Read the below written content of mail...
=========================================

From :- info@filippalaw.com
To: "Mishra Sunil"

Hello Mr. Sunilkumar,

From what you tell me it seems like you would be a good candidate for an H1-B visa in the U.S., provided you have a job offer. At this point, almost every visa which would be available to you would require a job offer in your field; software engineering. Given your level of expertise, it should not be too difficult to get an H1-B visa should a job offer
surface.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your
inquiry.

Regards,
Alejandro

>> its your peception
May be.
The way you presented, guides me so. A paragon.
The ubiquitous question was,
>>1. How many years of experience do you possess in an Oracle environment?
And Ubiquitous answer would be,
XXX years or months or whatever.
Your response was

>> Enough experience .. that usa can give me H1 visa ... Laughing ...

which seems (to my impaired perception) like you were mocking and was completely out-of-topic.

And you seem to be unaware of how the system works (immigration. Proven by your circular reference, which makes no sense and is unappropriate (my perception) )
and how sensitive would be posting such information ( word 'H1B' has sparked lengthy threads in many forums).
So,
Am I worried about your ethics(my perception) / posts ? Am i policing here ?
NO. Please continue.

hi,

This was the first reply you can read in link

http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/54882/67993/

after getting my reply .. still abubaker0370 posted this question in sever administration section and then in recovery and backup section .....

===============================================================

===============================================================

For the above written thing ....i dont want to change my perception..... b'coz i had pasted my personal mail for this reply .... H1 may be sensitive issue for many .. but for me its a visa thats it... because of which any one can work in usa ... and if he/she is ideal for 2 month then they are sent back to their nation... people wants to work there coz of $ nothing else ... But if they dont need services then why they are providing visa to other countries people?.... If some one is thinking they are doing charity... then its wrong...

=============================================================
Am I worried about your ethics(my perception) / posts ? Am i policing here ?
=============================================================
for above written thing i want to say .... site moderator work is to do policing on the site ...

I am afraid that this thread, like a recent other one, is going nowhere.

If anyone wants to discuss US immigration policies, hourly rates feel free to do so, but not here. I'm sure there are other websites for that.

@sunil: you can post your resume, but use a different topic please Wink.

http://www.orafaq.com/forum/fa/448/0/

Topic Closed.

If anyone feels this should be reopened, PM me.

@OP: your survey seemed broken to me. I couldn't submit a thing. Tried both Internet Exploder and FF.
