Dear Sir,

I am using VB 6.0 to connect to Oracle and myconnection string is

str = "Provider=MSDASQL.1;Persist Security Info=False;User ID=time;pwd=time;Data Source=hours"

Earlier it was working properly but then, PC on which this application was running got formatted and i am getting this error

-2147467259 error [[Microsoft]][[ODBC driver for Oracle]][[Oracle]]

Can you please help me, its very urgent..............Please!!!

I would be very thankful if i get solution as early as possible.

Connectivity Issue with MDAC and Oracle8i -

If not, try to reinstall the latest version of MDAC.

Hi,
Thanks for your kind cooperation. here i would like to extend my problem-- This program was running fine on a PC but then PC got formatted and we need to reinstall everything. now after reinstallation we are having 2-3 oracle homes in that PC like oracle 8i, oracle 9i......Now this program is accessing oracle 7.3 database which is on server.
I am using
str = "Provider=MSDASQL.1;Persist Security Info=False;User ID=timeoff;pwd=timeoff;Data Source=SAPHR"
this connection string......to connect to oracle database.

Also latest MDAC is installed there.

now tell me can you please help me?

Hi,

Have you confirmed the Oracle homes are correctly installed? eg. Can you sqlplus from each of the oracle homes to your target database?

Have you confirmed the Oracle com interfaces and MDAC has been correctly installed.

Have you created the "Data Source=SAPHR" entry with the MDAC data sources control panel applet, for the data source name linking to the correct Oracle COM driver?

Have you confirmed the TNS alias entry you have used within your Data Sources can be resolved? Test this using sqlplus from each oracle home.

Hi,

If you can use oracle 10g then you can use the ODBC instant client installation which involves downloading and installing a *few* files to you local system. See http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient/releasenotes/ODBC_IC_ReleaseNotes.html for the instant client release notes.

If you must use a version prior to 10g then you are required to install a full Oracle client to your local system.
