Sorry it took so long to reply.

I actually was having this type of problem with Discoverer4 on Win NT.

I completed uninstalled Oracle client on my workstation, with the exception of saving the TNSNAMES.ORA file in another location.

Then, I installed Discoverer4 with no problem.

Next, I went to reinstall Oracle client and was able to create a 2nd Oracle home directory and got it to work. I replaced the empty TNSNAMES.ORA file with the one I had saved.

The orginal message I found on this board on this subject had to do with Developer2000, but it solved my situation as well.

Someone told me that an Oracle home directory can only be shared if the versions of each Oracle product are compatible. They don't necessarily have to be the same version, though.
