I get similar problems if I have Oracle 9i database already installed and then try to install oracle Developer 6i. I might try install developer first, if that is even possible.

You must change the COMPATIBILITY of the SETUP.EXE. Find PROPERTIES of that file and change from WINDOWS 95 to 98/ME. Now you will install Developer6i to your machine but the services or oracle will change from STARTED to STARTING. Any way Developer6i doesn't work on Windows XP. Solution...You must back from Windows XP to Windows 2000... I'm sorry but that is the way...!!!
Regards....

copy the developer6i CD to your harddisk and copy the file orainst.exe in install folder to the same location and run it.

Hello,
You say it work well just by correcting Symcjit.dll ?

1.Do you install only some products or all the CD ?
2.Renaming (where find another one ?) this file is-it ok ?

When we try to install Oracle 6i, from the content of the CD put on the hard disk, we have many hangs !

thanks for your help

This is how you install oracle 6i forms and report on xp.
1.First click on START, RUN, type in "msconfig", press ENTER
2. click on the SERVICES tab, put a check on HIDE ALL MICROSOFT SERVICES.
3. remove all the checks box for oracle services. (if you dont know which one is for ORACLE, uncheck all and check it back after installation)
4. now go to the setup file and right click on it. click properties, click on compability tab and put a check on DISABLE VISUAL THEMES. do the same thing for orainst file. you will now able to install it withour any problem.
RUN the setup.exe first after the you assign name and the directory for installation click ok.
the screen will flash. click CANCEL then run the the ORAINST.EXE file in the INSTALL FOLDER.
NOTE: if you cannot DISABLE THE VISUAL option try to copy the files from cd to your hard drive.

People, your problems are finished now!!!!!

To solve this error, you must stop Oracle's services and rename its installation folder.
After that, backup its registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE) and then remove it.
Install Developer 6i, restore registry backup and rename Oracle's folder to its original name.

See ya!

Hi Peverton.

Your suggestion worked for me. I had Oracle 10g Client already installed and my Forms 6i was failing to install.

I stopped Oracle services, renamed the Oracle Folder, took a backup of registry for Oracle and tried installing forms 6i. It was a cake walk.

I renamed back the Oracle folder and I got a little skeptical to double click the backed up registry for Oracle. But later I remembered that by double clicking the backed up Oracle registry, it would only perform an OR operation and both the new and the old installations would be available for use. Thanks a ton for your valuable suggestion.

Regards Anand
