Followed the advice in WinWay; was having trouble downloading Java VM; the fix worked nicely. BUT..I was also stuck in Outlook express...I could not open any shortcuts in Email into Internet Explorer..much advice
received re Spymail,viruses...nothing helped. After correcting the oleaut32.dll problem...the Email shortcut problem was solved...surprise!! Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, V J Hickey

SUMMARY

When trying to install or run the product, the following error message appears:

"0x80070725 Incompatible Version of the RPC stub"

This error is caused by a bad version of the file "oleaut32.dll", which usually resides in the system folder. To correct the problem, we will remove the old file and then install the file again.

MORE INFORMATION

To correct the problem:

Download the DCOM file appropriate for your system, but do not run it.
For Windows 95, download dcom95.exe
For Windows 98, download dcom98.exe

Select Start, Shutdown
Select "Restart in MS-DOS mode"
When you get the command prompt "c:WINDOWS", enter these commands, each on a separate line:
CD c:windowssystem
rename oleaut32.dll oleaut32.ww1
exit
Windows will restart. Expect this error message: "a required .DLL file, C:windowssystemoleaut32.dll", was not found"
Log into Windows
Select Start, Run, and run the file you downloaded in step 1

Reboot your computer

This should correct the problem.

If, for any reason, this procedure causes your computer to not function properly, reverse the above action as follows:

Select Start, Shutdown
Select "Restart in MS-DOS mode"
When you get the command prompt "c:WINDOWS", enter these commands, each on a separate line:
CD c:windowssystem
rename oleaut32.ww1 oleaut32.dll
exit
Reboot your computer

Click start, go to RUN and in the OPEN text box, type: SFC. Place the appropiate System Restoration CD into the CD/DVD and when prompted, give the path to the computer. This should fix you up better than a cold beer and a hot blonde...............SmartyPants

Tried the RENAME OLEAUT32.DLL, but no good.
What finally worked was SFC (SystemFileChecker).
Type RUN, SFC, then "Extract one file from disk",
meaning your Windows disk or Installation folder.
Type "OLEAUT32.DLL" and SFC should place it in your System folder.
This bug appeared AFTER I installed DCOM, so I dont
see the wisdom of re-introducing it.

Hi Guys, I do not have technical expertise but followed the instructions and the solution worked fine!!. I previously failed because I erroneously attempted to rename the oleaut32.dll to oleaut32.old just moving to MSDOS environment instead of restarting on MSDOS mode. Thanks a lot

Select Start > Shutdown.
Select Restart in MS-DOS mode.
At the command prompt c:WINDOWS, enter the following commands on separate lines as shown.
cd c:windowssystem
rename oleaut32.dll oleaut32.old
exit
Ignore the error message:
A required .DLL file, C:windowssystemoleaut32.dll, was not found.
This error message appears because the file was renamed in step 4
Now log in to your computer as you normally would.
