I have installed Oracle8.1.7 on RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0, and I can use "sqlplus system/manager@r" to connect to database instance on the server which installed the Oracle.
However,I can't connect to it from other windows 2000 client which installed the client with the same release 8.1.7.
Any response apreciated!

Hi,

You need to define "r" in your local TNSNAMES.ORA file.

Try to backup the Windows TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files, and FTP (ASCII mode) these files from your Linux machine to the Windows machine.

Best regards.

Dear Frank,thanks for your advice.
I have resolved it.
I recreated the tnsnames.ora and listener.ora and sqlnet.ora, meanwhile I disabled the firewall of the RedHat.
Then it's ok now.
