To have Linux shares available on Win 9x systems , you need to create necessary Win9x registry entries. These entries are available in /usr/share/doc/samba-x.x.x/docs and appropriate .reg file for your platform (Win9x) needs to be imported into Windows registry.

After rebooting, you should see the linux system in Network Neighbourhood. If not still, the file shares created on Linux are still available in Windows Explorer using the \Linux_server_name in the address field.

Cheers !!
