Hello,
when first starting the instance and then starting the listener (without an listener.ora - file), the instance will not automatically register by the listener. (e.g. on Windows NT it will do so as described in the manual as new feature of Oracle 8i). I have to shutdown and startup the database again, and then it will register itself by the listener.
Is there any idea, how to solve this problem? It doesn't meet the concept to start the listener first.
Thank You for help,
Susanne

The lisener has to be started first to have it register in this way. Change your auto startup to start the listener before the DB and it will work.
