Dear Sir
I read an article on
http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.html. I
followed the instructions, but I am not able to
install Oracle 9i AS 1.0.2.0.0 (Oracle has sent me 3
CDs when I registerd at http://otn.oracle.com) on PCQ
Linux based on Red Hat 7.1 (2 CDs).
The problem is :
1. When I try to run /mnt/cdrom/runInstaller from
oracle home terminal, it says "Initialising Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall/jre/bin/jre. Please wait..." and
then nothing happens.
Please let me know where I am wrong.
Ash

Are you running the install from an xwindow session? I have not installed 9i on Linux but is this the right runInstaller? Is this what the Installation Guide tells you to run?

Hi
Thanks for all the encouragement.
I have managed to install Oracle 9i AS 1.0.2.0.0 on Red Hat 6.2 :) with the same hardware configuration i.e., 128 MB RAM, 1 GB swap, 1 GHz Celeron, etc.,
Now my database is up and running nicely :)
I think Red Hat 7.1 has some glibc problem with oracle :( (Someday, I'll sort it out)
Anyway thanks once again.
Best Wishes
ash
