Hi All,

I am planning to evaluate Oracle Stream & Oracle Replication Technologies.

I got following queries

1> Is Oracle Replication feature of Oracle 8i?
Is it available in Oracle 9i also?
2> Is Oracle Stream component of Oracle 9i?
3> Does Oracle stream can identify DML & DDL changes in source system whereas Oracle Replication can identify only DML change & not DDL change?
4> Any url or link or documentation which can provide me information for both the technologies or comparision in between 2 technologies?

I know in Oracle Replication Technologies watermark is applied to delta tables to identify INSERT / UPDATE / DELETE of rows from source table.

Can someone provide more information?

Thanks in Advance.
Regards,

Hi,

> 1) Is Oracle Replication a feature of Oracle 8i?/ Is it available in Oracle 9i also?

Yes, Oracle Replication is part of Oracle 8i and 9i (both Enterprise and Personal Editions).

> 2) Is Oracle Stream a component of Oracle 9i?

Yes, Oracle streams is a component of Oracle 9i Release 2 (version 9.2.0.x) Enterprise Edition.

> 3> Does Oracle stream identify DML & DDL changes in source system whereas Oracle Replication can identify only DML change & not DDL change?

Yip. You can use Streams to replicate DML and DDL changes. Advanced replication does not capture and replicate DDL changes.

4> Any url or link or documentation which can provide information for both technologies or comparison between the 2 technologies?

Look on OTN and Metalink. The Oracle manuals are also quite good!

Best regards.
