We have users who randomly disconnect off any of our three Oracle 8 databases.

When I simultaneously and continuously TCP/IP ping and TNSping any one of the databases, the TCP pings are 100% clean but anywhere from immediate to within a few minutes the TNSping will result in the following error:

TNS-12542: TNS:address already in use

Has anyone run into this or have any suggestions?

what is the OS ?
If windows then
create a registry value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE
name it USE_SHARED_SOCKET and set it equal to TRUE.
