Dear All,

I have a primary DB called "A" and a standby DB(in recovery mode) called "B".
my question is how will i make the standby DB "B" automatically start in the read-write mode once
the primary DB "A" FAILS

Thanks & Regards

Hi,
whats your Oracle version ? I'm not a big fan of automatic switchover especially when there is only one standby database for the primary(becos I'll be invalidating the standby when there is a false alarm on the primary).
I generally introduce an intentional time lag between primary and standby to stop any erroneous transaction/errors propagating to the standby.

Again it depends on the client's need. And 9i DataGuard provides for such easy switchover via role transition. This could be automated in 8i also,by high frequency polling of the primary and the subsequent activation of the standby database etc.
