Hi,

Currently I am testing Oracle 12c standard edition 2 on Oracle Linux Enterprise 7.2.
As I know the Oracle standard edition cannot support RMAN as CATALOG MODE, that why I use RMAN as NOCATALOG MODE with CONTROLFILE.

In my setting RMAN configuration, If I set the "CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOWS OF 7", Can I restore any old backed up file before of 7 days? Because sometime I need to restore old data from last month to another server.

Thank you!

If you need this then change your recovery windows!
Why do you set it to 7 days when your need is 1 month?

There is no restriction on using a catalog with SE. Create it anywhere you want. No charge.

I tried many times to upgrade catalog by create virtual private catalog, but it error "ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Partitioning" like below picture.

Could you tell me how to create catalog mode in Oracle 12c SE?

thank in advance,

Thank you!

From below reference, it is not recommended to keep longer backup retention policy.
I think there are 2 different cases.
1. For Production Error: we will need to restore recent new backed up.
2. But for testing or UAT enviroment: we need to restore any old backed up database that sometime are longer than 2 months to check some issue of pre or post COB.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Storing backup data in only the control file has some limitations:
• By default, Oracle stores seven days of backup data in the control file. The database parameter control file_record_keep_time can change the length of time. Still, it isn't recommended that you use your control file for long backup retention periods. It causes control file growth, and if you ever lose your control files, you've lost all your recovery information. It's doesn't make recovery impossible, but it's a real pain.
• Limits the type of reporting you can do on your backups. You can query only one database at a time, after which you have to manually aggregate all the reports for multiple databases together.

So recreate the catalog with no partition.
It is not mandatory to have partitioned catalog tables.

As long as your requirements need it.
If you need a recovery window of 1 month then set it to 31.

I still cannot create the catalog.

Create an Enterprise Edition database, and create your catalog in that. Then register your SE databases. As I said, there is no charge.

Why not research from the official docs?
Create Catalog
Managing A Recovery Catalog

And for what it's worth, my rman catalog is in a Standard Edition One database.
