Why do you "have" to install that un-supported combination?

What is Plan B?

If we know the answer to my first question, we might be able to suggest a viable alternative.

You want to install the worst version Oracle ever delivered on a non supported OS...
Good luck.

Hi

We are at a stage where we wont upgrade Oracle version for a while now. Plan is to see if we can install oracle client on windows7 which we are planning to migrage the client work station from windows XP. No smart comments please. Just reply if you have done this or know how to do it.

thanks in advance.

If you had executed the plan instead of posting here, you would already have your answer.

>Just reply if you have done this or know how to do it.
I have never tried it just like I have never intentionally shot myself in the foot.

What is the fallback position when Oracle client behaves differently than it did on XP?

No positions taken yet. Trying to see if we can upgrade the workstation to windows7. I tried installing oracle 9i client on windows7 and it is crashing. Saw a lot of postings on the web that say that they have done it and suggested different options.

That's why I am looking for help in this forum(orafaq). Want to see if I can get an answer from somebody who have tried this option and has achieved it.
So far, only getting smart comments. I am fully aware that this is not a certified version by Oracle / Microsoft etc, ........., we are on a de-supported oracle version.......
I am fully aware that we might face problems/issues if something was to happen on the client installed on windows7...........
That's why I am trying to test and not looking beyond testing now.
If you have not tried this option, you don't have to answer. Please move on.

regards.

If you look at this topic, http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/192317/ you'll see that kumarvk is running 8.1.7 on Windows 7. He doesn't have much history of helping others, but if you can assist him there is always chance that he will reciprocate.

Hi John,

It says windows 2007. I am not aware we had an OS of this version. It could be a typo for 2000 or 2008. Either way, thanks, I will post the question.

regards.

Hi Michel,

Sorry, You misunderstood. I am looking for help. Just don't want to hear smart comments.

I would assume in this day and age it is given when somebody wants to test out certain scenario that is not certified, they probably know the consequences.

If this offended anybody, again, sorry.

regards.

Actually, no, it is not a "given".

You keep driving past signs that say "bridge out ahead", and instead of heeding the signs, you keep asking how to make your car go faster . . . and telling those trying to point out the signs that you don't want to hear about the bridge being out.
