Before connecting to a database, you must start it up. Did you do that?

Is the database installed on your computer? If so, go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, choose Services. Start Listener and OracleService.

I'm not sure what is your current status. Is Oracle available now, or not?

How did you start these services? Right-click + Start should do it, and both should be "Started", then. Here's how it looks for me:

Services are OK, but are you connecting to this database (ORCL)?

Michel

What is your EXACT connection string?
Use SQL*Plus and copy and paste your session, the WHOLE session.

Michel, unless I'm wrong, is trying to find out whether you are connecting to the database you have installed on your computer, i.e. whose name is ORCL. Therefore, your connect string should look like "scott/tiger@orcl" or similar. So, could you provide that (possibly the whole session, starting with operating system's command prompt).

As of uninstalling Oracle: Oracle Universal Installer offers that, but you'll probably need to do some manual labor. Have a look a t this John's message (posted recently; disregard the fact that topic regards mainly Apex issues).

Missing files? Download the setup again, I'd say (did you download the right file, for your operating system?).

Oracle 11g has 2 installation files ..you need to unzip them into a single drive or directory from where you can start your installation with administration privileges....

You need to download two files and merge them into a single directory.....

Oracle 11g zip files have these known issues...you can download them separately...
Missing files search here

Or another option will be If you are trying to practice on a small DB then you can go with express edition which is a small and very useful for students.....

This Installation can be installed without any issues ....

You can download it from here Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2
