Where did you get the installation file? RAR? Oracle, as far as I know, provides ZIP files, not RAR ones. So, are you sure that it came from a legal source?

Yes it is definitely legal. I have been asked to download the software from a shared location and the file name is ora10.2.0.5_x86.rar

I unzipped with 7zip software and started installer from the unzipped oui folder, and immediately hit the error which will ask location of products.xml file

Unfortunately, I can't help.

I believe John Watson answered your question previously (but it was lost, somehow, along with your question). Hopefully, he'll repost his message rather soon. (Of course, someone else might assist as well).

If you have not product.xml then you have not a valid distribution.
If it is not a valid distribution then it is not legal.
Oracle does not provide rar files for a whole distribution, so it is not legal.
Ask the one that builds this file if he had not forgotten some files.

Michel

Hi Michael,

When i browse through shared location ...Oracle\oracle-media-10\WINTEL-x86\10.2.0.4 I find three folders client, clone and patches then i went into clone folder and downloaded the .rar file. But upon checking under client folder i can see products.xml.

I believe there should be similar file in clone also which is missing, any thoughts?

(I thought that he contacted Oracle as 10g can't be downloaded any more, and that they gave him a link to what he calls a "shared folder", calling that source "legal").

The product.xml is in the stage directory, off the root of the installation DVD. It looks to me as though you have a copy of an installed Oracle Home, not a copy of the installation media. So you would need to follow a cloning routine, not an install. Ask the person who created the rar file.

The shared location is our internal company shared location (sorry for confusing guys), and some one withing company might have created .rar file earlier.

So it is not an Oracle one.
It is not a correct one, you have to restart from a valid one or find the one that built the rar to explain you what's inside and how to use it.

Michel
