Dear All,

I am issuing following command to connect to oracle

HOME-oracle:/home/oracle>sqlplus anything/anything as sysdba

when i am using above command then I am able to connect to SQL prompt Also when I am trying to use xxxx/yyyyy as sysdba,
still it is connecting to sql prompt

I have noticed that whatever user/password is use and try to connect with SYSDBA , it is connecting.

What is the key role SYSDBA is playing here.

I have read the password file management but not got tooo much from there . Even I have not understood the OS authentication and DB authentication .'

please need comment on above.

thanks.
Ganesh

It is time to read:
Database Concepts
(search for "Connection with Administrator Privileges" and follow the links).

Note that this is a FAQ and you should find the answer using the "Search" link above.
