backups taken just before the open resetlogs can be used if there were no transactions between the time the backup was taken and the time resetlogs was issued. That is, if there is absolutely no change between the incomplete recovery SCN and the resetlogs SCN. This is accomplished internally by placing the recently recovered files offline before the database is opened with resetlogs.
