Hi all,
I am installing Oracle ASM (11g) in Oracle cluster (11g) on oracle enterprise linux 5. I am getting PRKC-1031 PRKC-1031 : Error checking free space for /dev/shm on lindb1(i.e. node 1). Here are some information which might help you

  1. I can do ssh lindb2 from node lindb1 and ssh lindb2 from terminal lindb1 without password for both the user i.e. oracle and root
  2. I have installed Oracle cluster 11g without any problem
  3. I have run cluvfy for both pre crsinst and post crsinst and it was successfully
  4. I am running installation from lindb1.

Please let me know if you require any further information.

Thanks in advance for any solution.

Regards,

PRKC-1031: Error checking free space for {0} on {1}
Cause: Might be due to a network issue or to an improper user equivalence setup.

Action: Check node reachability between the local and the remote nodes and make sure that user equivalence
is correctly configured

Could you please post pre/post checking using cluster verfication utility?

Babu

I already have done all the steps mentioned in this link except re-downloading the software and re-install. Do I left with this solution only?

Well, I understand your cluster pre/post checking successfully completed as well as you don't have mount point space issue.

>>I have installed Oracle cluster 11g without any problem
>>I am installing Oracle ASM (11g) in Oracle cluster (11g) on oracle enterprise linux 5. I am getting PRKC-1031 PRKC-1031 :

Looks you already installed oracle cluster successfully but while installing asm home getting issues.

Please confirm us; Are you using different user for oracle cluster, asm & database home? If yes post your user equivalence from asm user.

>>I already have done all the steps mentioned

Could you please post the above steps what you done (copy and paste your session details ), this will help to me understand your issues

Applogy, I don't have session ifo with me right now. I can provide you latter. For further information

  1. Used same user for all installation
  2. CRS and ASM is using same home
  3. Steps include setting kernel parameters to the required value, configuring SSH on both node. Basically, I have followed http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR1RACInstallationOnRHEL5UsingVMwareESXAndNFS.php to install CRS.

Thanks for the details. Looks you don't have issues in cluster pre/post checking.

As per your statement; You have CRS & ASM is using same home so why are you trying to install ASM Home? You can use CRS home right?

I have tried to change it too. Now I have tried with

  1. oracle_base=/u01/app/oracle
  2. crs home /u01/crs
  3. orace home /u01/app/oracle

Even this has not resolved the issue.

Did you run
cluvfy stage -pre dbinst
to make the checks before installing the ASM/RDBMS home? that error looks as though there is a problem with your shared memory config.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in response as I was not out for some time.

I fixed the problem. Actually It was asking for SSH to the same node also e.g. ssh lindb1 form node lindb1 and ssh lindb2 from node lindb2.

I have successfully installed ASM.

I am now facing problem with DBCA.

  1. I have tried with DBCA and every time both of the node shutdown while 36-40 % of completion. I am installing using VMWARE Server 2.0
  2. I then tried to create database manually.
  3. Used DBCA to generate script. Run this script manually on node 1
  4. Run this script on node 2 which says "If you have not run it on node 1, please run it on node 1"
  5. Now I am starting database on node 1 with startup, it is fine till mounting database but opening database is very slow.
  6. Starting Database at node 2 now is deadly slow. It is taking hell lot of time.
  7. Besides, if run anything from node 1, like select * from v$datafile etc, it is also very very slow.

My System conf

  • core 2 duo (E6850 @ 3.0 GHz)
  • 4 GB Ram

VMWARE Node Conf

  • 2 Process with 5.8 Ghz
  • 1.5 GB Ram

How can i resolve this problem of getting very-very slow.

I am installing using VMWARE Server 2.0

This means I have used VMWARE Server 2.0 for installing Oracle RAC on my system.
