Hi,

I have 12 gb of archivelogs in a database. i used rman to delete the archive logs by using the command:
Quote:

rman> delete noprompt archivelog all;

But using the command does not delete all the archived logs and many arch. log files are still left. I am not using catalog database. is this because in control file the arch. log information is overwritten? Is it fine to delete the arch. logs manually instead of using rman?

Thanks

It depends on many things.
Your retention policy for instance. Oracle will keep the logs it needs to satisfy it.

You may want to verify the value for CONTROL_FILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME.
