RMAN is not removing obsolete backups, causing my flashback area to fill.

Only parameter I have changed in RMAN is: REDUNDANCY 5.
When I do a "crosscheck backup", it does find backups from 07/17/2009 and says they are still there (48 files, 90gig). I had just run a full backup using enterprise manager 1 hour ago..

When I run:

RMAN>delete obsolete;

RMAN retention policy will be applied to the command
RMAN retention policy is set to redundancy 5
allocated channel: ORA_DISK_1
channel ORA_DISK_1: sid=129 devtype=DISK
no obsolete backup found
Rman>

Not sure where else to look. My archive logs are getting cleaned up just fine, so is the autobackup directory root. But items in the "backup" root of the flash_recovery_area are not getting obsoleted. I have done 5 backups since 7/31/09....so any files earlier than that should be deleted.

Any thoughts would help.

Thanks

you have to shutdown your database then start it up in monut mode
hope it will solve your problem.
Do you have an idea?
what is meant redoudancy?
