Hi all,

We are planning to refresh our database with our clients data. Our client wants to send us the hard drive with a zipped copy of their database. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can refresh this database? I usually refresh using export/import or datapump.

Unzip the files and put them in their location.

Will these be the database files? So, I first remove the database files of our database and then put their unzipped database files in that location and startup the database?

You need zip your export dumpfile.

Don't ask us. Ask the client EXACTLY what are they sending you.

Okay. Looks like they are sending the database files. They are running on 10.2.0.4. Our database is 10.2.0.3. Do I have to upgrade my database to 10.2.0.4 to restore the client's database files?

You can install into a new ORACLE_HOME V10.2.0.1 & then upgrade it to V10.2.0.4 and use it to open the client's DB.

Or you could upgrade your s/w & DB to V10.2.0.4.
It is your choice.

I think this thread move to upgrade topic.

As per your requirement; You have export dumpfile; I belive no need to upgrade your database; Just try to import.

Thanks. Will the compatibility of datapump import work if I impdp from 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.3 database?

I read in some of the links that I've to mention the version parameter, is it necessary?

Thanks for the link.

IF they send datapump export, I've asked the client to mention version parameter in the export.

But, they do not want to give us a export for some reason and would like to send us the database files. They are not sure yet.

If they send us the database files, and I copy them to our database file location, will it change the sys password etc or do I just copy the non default database files?

I never use Suppose/may be/I think/If. As per BlackSwan; Confirm with your client.
