We are using Oracle 10g RAC in Window 2003 environment. During the installation, we enable automount according to the installation manual and install the RAC (Two node) on a SAN storage. We use this oracle rac as a disaster backup so after the installation, we would like to stop all oracle and rac service and dismount from the SAN disk. Given that the server need to be started without mounting the SAN disk, could we simple disable automount and reboot ? Any other way recommended ? Thanks !!

look into modify options.

I do not understand this. Please rephrase.
If you are not mounting the SAN Disks, Oracle RAC will not find its "shared area" and WILL not work.
Are you testing the RAC functionality or SAN failover ?

Thanks for your reply. This RAC has a special purpose (as a standyby) and would be bring down after install. The word "bring down" mean stop all oracle related window service, disconnect from the SAN disk and leave the operating system running. (Because the SAN disk will only be available on special situation. Of course, the data in the SAN disk will be maintained)

The current way we use is disabling the fibre channel driver.

When we need to use this server again, we would enable the fibre channel driver and reboot. After the reboot, the SAN disk will be mount automatically and we would start all Oracle related service.

We want to know whether disable automount can replace our existing step of disable fibre channel driver.

Thanks !
