hi iam new to rman;

i configure the rman the by issuing CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON;

but i issue the command BACKUP DATABASE command it performed the backup, again i issued the BACKUP DATABASE command it performed the backup .but i didn't do any updation in the database;

my friend told me if BACKUP OPTIMIZATION is ON we didn't take identical copies of the backup;

but here i take identical copies of the database,pls tell me what is the use of CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON statement;

and also i want to know what is the use of CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW 2 DAYS and CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 2;

pls explain me.

May be something is lost in translation. It is not want "your friend" meant.
From the docs.

Quote:

If you enable backup optimization, then the BACKUP command skips backing up files when the identical file has already been backed up to the specified device type.

It is all in documentation.
