I have created three database pr1, prd2 and rct1.

prd1 and rct1 are sharing the same oracle home and started with user "oracle1".

prd2 has separate oracle home and started with the user "oracle2".

I want to connect the rct1 database ie rman database using the user "oracle2" and i should able to startup and shutdown the rc1 instance.

I can directly connect the rman using oracle2 user.

rman catalog=rman/rman@RC1 target= /

but is it possible to shutdown/startup the rc1 instance.

Please Clarify or provide me the solution.

Basically i have two instance with diffrenet oracle home and diffrerent oracle user and i want use single recovery database and register both the instance and should able to start and shutdown the recovery database using both the user ie oracle1 and oracle2.

Thank you.

Why do you want to shutdown/startup the catalog database via rman?
As for all databases, you need sysdba or sysoper os roles to be able to do that.

I want to startup/shutdown because we dont want to run the catalog database all the time.Only it required we will startup and once the backup is over, we will shutdown the catalog database.

Anyway you have to connect as sysdba and not as rman catalog owner but rman is NOT the correct tool to do it use sqlplus.
