Hi

Oracle categorizes rman to be full or incremental backups, hot or cold backups and consistent or inconsistent backups.. I feel that hot backups and inconsistent backups are one and the same. Any inputs?

If hotbackup is inconsistent backup and cold backup is consistent backup, then why they have been categorized in to 2 different types?

Why there are words that have the same meaning?
Just saying the same thing from a different point of view.

Because they are different.
I prefer to say that hot backup is dynamic while cold backup is static.

From my perspective if a hot backup were really inconsistent, then it would be useless. I require my data to be consistent!
