I am hosting an Oracle database on a Virtual Machine (VM) and recently it (the VM) has become very unstable crashing frequently. This is what I feel has created a problem that stops me from being able to gain access to the database.
I cannot log on as a normal user as it informs me the database is initialising or shutting down. However I am able to log on as a SYSOPER but I then get the following error message when I shut-down and start-up the database:
ORA-00368: checksum error in redo log block
ORA-00353: log corruption near block 7233 change 78463090 time 08/14/2008 15:26:26
ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1: 'C:\ORACLE\ORADATA\ORA9\REDO01.LOG'
I have 'Googled' the oracle errors but as they can refer to different files have found no answer yet. Any help would be very much appreciated. If possible backing up a single schema would be sufficient as I can just restore this to an earlier backup I have of the VM. Many thanks.

Firstly, thank you for your reply. I have looked through the Google results and went with the 'recover database until cancel', which brought up the following error message:
ORA-00279: change 7845390 generated at 08/04/2008 15:26:26 needed for thread 1
ORA-00289: suggestion: C:\ORACLE\ORA92\RDBMS\ARC00395.001
ORA-00280: change 28463090 for thread 1is in sequence #395
and the 'recover database until change 7846390', which brought up this error message:
ORA-01547: warning: RECOVER succeeded but OPEN RESETLOGS would get error below
ORA-01194: file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
ORA-01110: data file 1: 'C:\ORACLE\ORADATA\ORA9\SYSTEM01.DBF'
Can anyone suggest what I should do to fix the C:\ORACLE\ORADATA\ORA9\SYSTEM01.DBF file please? Many thanks.

Not really, it would mean I forgot to do a backup. However I do have a month old backup and have decided to just revert back to that and make whatever changes I did to this over the past month. This time however I'm thinking a backup every other day would be smart!
