Hi

Can External Tables be used to read DAT files from the application server instead of the db server?

I'm trying this without success. DBA had advised me that the new directory path that I am using has be created to map to the app server, however when I select from my ex table I get the following error:

KUP-04040: file LDERVN.dat in [directory] not found

any one done this, that can help?

Can you please explain why not? It seems a reasonable thing to want to do!

Many thanks

Because it is as it.
The PL/SQL engine run on the server and sees only local files. Although you can use NFS files, it is not recommended and Oracle never supported Windows network drives.
